The Office of Workforce Development (WFD) works across the Department to help develop and maintain a highly competent and qualified workforce. Workforce Development seeks to reduce duplication of effort and maximize limited workforce-related resources by collaborating with internal and external partners, and continually seeking to improve the processes, programs, and systems that we manage.

Technology Resources

The Office of Workforce Development coordinates a wide variety of resources to increase competencies and improve performance, including:

Trak-It, Department of Health (DOH)'s Learning Management System

Trak-It, the Department of Health's Learning Management System, is a software application for the delivery, documentation, tracking and reporting of classroom and online training programs. Trak-It is a tool that helps ensure that the Department has the best-trained and most competent employees possible with the skills necessary to meet its mission. With the ability to produce and provide in-house training online through Trak-It, it is possible for the department to offer just in time, cost-effective training for all of its employees.
 

Employee Resource Information Center (ERIC) is a One Stop Shop information system built to deliver high performance DOH tools, resources, information, and services to support a highly skilled, highly educated DOH workforce.
Videoconferencing Network allows employees and partners to meet almost “in person” to conduct business, trainings and for other important events. Two or more locations can interact via video and audio transmissions simultaneously. WFD staff provides production support to assist employees in planning and conducting a video conference event.

 
Online Journals are available for staff to access a variety of journals with the latest information on public health related issues that include articles in the areas of research, practice, policy, evaluation, and more.
DOH Training Resource Library offers a collection of educational and training materials includes DVDs and books searchable by topic area for offices and or individuals at no cost.

DOH Distance Learning Services Network (DLSN) advertises videoconferences, webcasts, and satellite broadcasts. These opportunities are available to employees statewide and some are accessible to DOH partners. The DLSN provides access to training opportunities, critical information, continuing education credits for health professionals, and other events.

Training Resources

Leadership Training is offered through a variety of delivery methods. Leadership Training for Supervisors (Basic)—is available online that includes six modules for the newly hired or promoted supervisor. Leadership Institute (Advanced)—uses the six modules from the basic online course and expands on the concepts through an eight-session series using the video conferencing system.

Overview Series for Leaders provides new CHD leaders an opportunity to learn from Central Office divisions and offices about the wide variety of programs the Department manages and allows for new leaders to network with their peers and program contacts in Central Offices.

Succession Planning allows for the transfer of knowledge from key people in the organization using techniques such as mentoring, formal and on-the-job training. With more than 54% of the DOH workforce at or approaching retirement, this increases the need for succession planning in the Department. WFD provides assistance on how to implement succession planning at the local level.

Employee Mentoring is designed to foster leadership development; expand public health employees’ and/or students’ knowledge, skills, and abilities; and broaden understanding of the Department of Health and its missions and programs. In collaboration with the University of South Florida, Public Health Training Center, WFD is pleased to invite DOH employees to participate in the online Mentoring Program.

Educational Leave with Pay is available to eligible Department of Health employee to take paid educational leave of absence for specific approved work-related education and training.
Instructional Design and Delivery consultation services are available to help make effective trainings.
